ABSTRACT

Objective: to identify the frequency of palatal fistula as a postoperative complication of primary palatoplasty, as well as its most common risk factors. Material and methods: an observational, descriptive, and retrospective study was carried out that included patients who underwent primary palatoplasty between 2017 and 2020 at the Centro de Alta Especialidad "Dr. Rafael Lucio". Results: a frequency of 35% of patients with palatal fistula was obtained, having as risk factors of statistical significance the type of original fissure and the lack of follow-up of post-surgical indications. Conclusion: it is essential to know the risk factors for decision-making regarding the surgical technique to be used according to the type of fissure to be treated.
