ABSTRACT

Surveillance of nutritional status in the pediatric population is essential to maintain adequate growth and development. By carrying out appropriate and standardized procedures, we will be able to identify patients with undernutrition or with overweight/obesity, which in turn will lead to establishing interventions that reduce complications. The nutritional evaluation of all pediatric patients should be performed in the outpatient consultation or when admitted to a hospital. This article presents the most current recommendations, both for detecting pediatric patients who are overweight or obese, as well as searching for comorbidities associated with this condition. In addition, recommendations are provided to address the issue of obesity within the family, to ensure that patients carry out interventions aimed at improving their nutritional condition.
