ABSTRACT

Objective. To describe postoperative clinic evolution of patients with pulmonary hypertension using Novick patch for surgical closure.
Materials and Methods. We found 21 patients with congenital heart disease undergoing Novick patch in an eleven-year period, from January 2005 to June 2016 in our institution. We use descriptive statistic analysis.
Results. Of the 21 patients most were female adults, the functional class was significantly improve with a 47.6% of the patients in functional class I (p<0.05), pulmonary hypertension crisis presented in 48%, the mortality rate was 14.3% and a 5 year survival rate of 85%.
Conclusions. The use of Novick patch is a highly reproducible technique that allows patients better postsurgical adaption and improves quality of life and survival.
