ABSTRACT
Objective. Our goal is to decrease length of hospital stay as well as length of intensive care unit, even avoid it, this reduce cost and morbidities.
Material and Methods. All patients operated in the service from april 2015 to november 2016 were gathered. We collected from the database of the pediatric therapy unit.
Results. The fast track strategy was applied in cardiovascular surgery with a success rate of 54%, and maintaining in the second order extubation between 24 and 48 hours. Mortality was 3.2%.
Conclusions. Among patients submitted to early extubation, we had a high success rate, giving a rapid recovery, a shorter hospital stay, a decrease in complications associated with mechanical ventilation, and a reduction in hospital costs.
