ABSTRACT

Myxomas are the most common benign tumors in the heart. They are mesenchymal tumors that are usually located in the left atrium. They can appear at any age and they are more frequent among women. Generally they are unique. However, there is a low percentage of patients with these tumors that are associated to hereditary diseases. One of them is the Carney complex, a syndrome beeing associated to schwannomas, endocrinopathies and neuroendocrine tumors such as myxomas. These types of tumors in the heart are often multiple and recurrent. This is why patients suffering from this disease may require multiple surgical interventions. There are procedures enhancing tumoral resection by video-assisted cardioscopy.
