ABSTRACT

We report the case of a 67 year old female with a left atrial myxoma of 6.5 x 7 cm, causing severe mitral regurgitation diagnosed by preoperative transthoracic echocardiography. Successful resection of the tumor was performed during the operation and confirmed the presence of mitral regurgitation secondary to mitral annular dilation. Mitral valve defect was corrected by means of annuloplasty ring insertion. Our case suggest that it is essential to evaluate the mitral valve in patients with atrial myxoma prior and at time of operation.
