ABSTRACT

Background: sporotrichosis, a common mycosis, mainly affects South America (87.38%), followed by North America (11.62%), and 1% in Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Diagnosis is confirmed through mycological studies.
Objectives: to determine the epidemiological, clinical, and mycological aspects of patients diagnosed with sporotrichosis at the Dr. Manuel Gea González General Hospital in Mexico City.
Methodology: observational, descriptive, and retrospective study conducted in the Mycology Section at the Dr. Manuel Gea González General Hospital from 1995 to 2023. The following variables were analyzed: gender, age, place of birth, profession, evolution, comorbidities, clinical form, and descriptive statistics were used.
Results: a total of 28 patients were gathered during the period 1995-2023, of which 35.71% were female and 64.28% were male, with ages ranging from nine to 84 years, showing a predominance in the 41-60 age group. The human clade of the Sporothrix schenckii complex was identified in 100% of cases.
Conclusions: sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis, with the highest incidence in males aged 41-60 years. Related occupational activities were housekeeping, students, and farmers, with a predominance of the lymphangitic form in the upper limbs and a rare disseminated form. In the pediatric population, it was more common in adolescents, affecting the upper limbs, followed by the face.
