Adolescent with tubulointerstitial nephritis syndrome and uveitis. Case report

ABSTRACT

Introduction: tubulointerstitial nephritis syndrome and idiopathic uveitis, although rare, seem to have a higher incidence than reported, more frequently in women.
Objective: to present the case of an adolescent with tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome.
Case presentation: 15-year-old female patient diagnosed with tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis, by renal biopsy. The initial symptoms were non-specific, caused by a febrile syndrome of four weeks of evolution, blurred vision, hyperemia, and pain in the left eye. Treatment with steroids was imposed with a successful response and no relapses that worsened renal function during follow-up.
Conclusions: tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome is a condition that requires great diagnostic insight on the part of the specialist, since it is not accompanied by specific alterations. This presentation constitutes a contribution to the dissemination and characterization of a disease where an incidence greater than that reported in the specialized literature is suspected.
