ABSTRACT

Sarcomas are malignant tumors that derive from connective tissue, they can be located in different sites such as the retroperitoneum and the extremities. Retroperitoneal leiomyosarcomas are rare tumors, representing only 0.5% of soft tissue tumors in adults; They can originate from the tunica media of the inferior vena cava, they can present as unilateral masses and be painful, being able to compress or invade adjacent structures. The ideal diagnostic method is computed tomography with intravenous contrast. We present the case of a 35-year-old patient with pain in the lower back, hip and lower extremities and who was later identified as a paravertebral tumor, she underwent surgical resection.
