ABSTRACT

It is widely known that today's civil society is made up of institutions connected to each other that create a network regarding different areas, particularly cultural, political, and social. People in a society organize themselves into groups based on their interests and values, and this connection has been strengthened in recent years thanks to social media. As a result, there is constant flow and exchange of information between citizens and the institutions, especially among the younger population, which allows the society to actively participate in social matters. This remarkable growth of online platforms has been undoubtedly a significant outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic, and today it has become a key tool for optimizing resources and sharing information. The usage of social media is not just a trend, but an outstanding change in the civil society, and people must be able to lead this shift in order to adapt and fully harness its potential. Social media has served as a space for freedom of expression, support, and organization around social causes. But it is important to highlight the challenges that come with it, such as misinformation, discrimination, cyberbullying, and its effects on mental health, all which the community must face. This article aims to explore the relationship between young people and social media in their interaction with civil society, emphasizing both advantages and limitations in building an active and engaged society.
