ABSTRACT

Purpose/Context.The text explores the idea of long-term human survival, which has become a minimal common ethic for transhumanist thinkers since the late 20th century. They propose the technoscientific transformation of humanity, focusing on the existential risks associated with emerging technologies. In this context, transhumanists assign a crucial role to space exploration and the expansion of humanity into the cosmos as a way to maximize survival chances.
Methodology/Approach. The analysis is based on comparing ethical perspectives on human survival, considering the transhumanist proposals of technoscientific transformation and space colonization against other philosophical views.
Results/Findings. Transhumanists propose space colonization and the use of emerging technologies to ensure human survival. They emphasize the importance of technoscientific transformation and expansion beyond Earth.
Discussion/Conclusions/Contributions. Despite criticism, transhumanists argue that space exploration and technoscientific advancement are essential to face existential risks and guarantee a secure future for humanity.
