ABSTRACT

Introduction: tooth loss is a common condition that ideally is replaced with dental implants, however, the place where a tooth used to exist, usually is not in adequate conditions to receive such treatments, that is why at present to improve such state one of the multiple options is the use of platelet concentrates such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) or platelet rich fibrin (PRF), which have the function of improving bone conditions due to their capacity to promote growth factors and therefore, the formation of bone in the defects that are generated after a dental extraction for the reception of a dental implant or otherwise to maintain the volumetric conditions. Platelet concentrates are frequently used in medical procedures as well as in maxillofacial surgery. The purpose of these techniques is the extraction of elements from the blood that promote and improve tissue regeneration. Objective: review of the concepts of platelet concentrates and their post-extraction uses. Conclusion: bone regeneration in post-extraction defects is a key challenge for the success of dental implants and prosthetic rehabilitations. The use of platelet concentrates, such as PRP and PRF, represents a promising alternative due to their ability to promote growth factors and stimulate bone formation. Both methods share the objective of improving healing and tissue regeneration, but present differences in their preparation and composition, which influences their clinical application.
