ABSTRACT

Malignant chondroid syringoma (MCS) is a very rare adnexal tumor that originates from the sweat glands of the skin. Clinical diagnosis is challenging due to the lack of clear criteria for its identification. For this reason, histopathological examination is an important part for establishing the diagnosis. MCS displays a characteristic biphasic pattern of epithelial and mesenchymal components. The use of immunostaining serves as an auxiliary tool by demonstrating positivity in different markers depending on cell differentiation. The prognosis of this tumor depends on the location, age, and sex of the patient; primary tumors on the trunk of older female patients are associated with a worse prognosis. Wide local excision is the treatment of choice. We present the case of an 82-year-old woman with an asymptomatic, rapidly growing lesion on her back. The tumor was excised and sent for histopathologic examination, where the diagnosis of MCS was established.
