ABSTRACT
The 2030 agenda has defined sustainable development as the ability of society to meet people's basic needs without harming the environment, making responsible use of natural resources. Health care waste generated in health care facilities is a cause for concern. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that inadequate treatment can lead to indirect risks to human health and damage to the environment: "about 85% of the waste generated is the same as household waste, but the remaining 15% is classified as hazardous". To promote sustainable healthcare systems, it includes the segregation of waste through online tools to estimate the carbon footprint; the modification of purchasing patterns in collaboration with suppliers to favour sustainable products; the reduction of single-use disposable products; and the promotion of recycling to minimize energy consumption during sterilization and favour the development of public policies on the environmental impact of healthcare.
