ABSTRACT
The presence of accessory spleens in the retroperitoneum is very rare. We present the case of a patient undergoing splenectomy who presented epistaxis and persistent thrombocytopenia after elective splenectomy for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The gammagram and computed axial tomography of the abdomen allowed us to identify the presence of a left retroperitoneal accessory spleen that was resected and with this, the patient’s thrombocytopenia and epistaxis subsided.REFERENCES
