Spinal brucellosis: case report and literature review

ABSTRACT

Introduction: brucellosis infection is considered a global public health problem, which is estimated in about 58% of the cases demonstrated with osteoarticular involvement. With a special predilection for involvement of the lumbar spine, in patients with carriers mostly with clear identifiable risk factors. Clinical case: we present the case of a 60-year-old female patient, who began suffering consistent with the presence of pain in the thoracolumbar region of long evolution, with poor response to conservative treatment which shows a progressive intensity, until conditioning loss of ambulation and prostration. A study protocol was performed, in which X-ray and computed axial tomography (CAT) were observed lytic lesion in the vertebral body L2, as well as hyperintense lesions with a tendency to invasion of the spinal canal in axial and sagittal T2 section. Conclusion: brucellosis continues to be an important pathology in our country, in our clinical case a surgical resolution similar to that reported in the international literature was performed, with the topic of the different tools available for such resolution.
