Psychometric properties of the attention test d2 in workers of the electrical company

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Focusing attention is a key premise for the performance of risk workers in the electricity sector in Cuba. Its evaluation requires to use valid and reliable tools that allow an accurate, stable and ethical interpretation of the results. Objectives: To describe the functionality of the d2 attention test in workers from the Cuban national electricity company; to evaluate the psychometric properties of this technique; and to establish the values for its qualification in the reference population. Methods: An instrumental development research was carried out between September 2020 and December 2021. A nonprob-abilistic purposive sampling was applied to 762 workers. The internal consistency of the instrument was analyzed, together with its stability and the correlations of its scores with those of the symbols and digits test as a theoretically similar test. Results: The application revealed that the test has a high reliability, both in terms of internal consistency and stability over time, as well as adequate construct validity. The scales were established for the reference population, in terms of schooling level and age groups. Conclusions: The developed study allows the introduction of a new tool for the exploration of attention, based on the visual search paradigm, in Electrical Company, and opens new lines for research linked to the cognitive functioning of workers exposed to high levels of risk.
