Management of emotional intelligence in medical students at the Panamerican University

ABSTRACT
Introduction: it is important to adequately manage emotional intelligence management. It is recognized that it leads to individual success, comfort and satisfaction when performing academic activities.
Objective: to describe factors that influence the management of emotional intelligence in first year medical students at Panamerican University.
Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 87 first-year medical students of the Panamerican University between June-July 2021. The ethics of scientific research were complied with. Variables were operationalized to achieve the objective, techniques and procedures were used to obtain information, processing and analysis, discussion and synthesis.
Results: the female sex predominated with 72.4% of the total. The most frequent site was the Naranjo site with 50.6% of the total, while 77.0% of the students belonged to the rural area. The 93.1 % of those studied have control of stress and self-knowledge influences the management of emotional intelligence, with pre-dominance of the female sex and rural area. Rational and emotional balance is the one that most affects emotional intelligence in general, it is more affected in the urban area and in the female sex (with 15% and 32%).
Conclusions: factors that influence the management of emotional intelligence in first year medical students of the Panamerican University were described.
