Percepción de riesgo ante la COVID-19 en estudiantes de medicina de la Universidad Panamericana

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the population's perception of risk to COVID-19 contributes to avoid the spread of the virus; to increase public participation in the adoption of preventive measures and to decrease the level of contagion worldwide. Objective: to identify the risk perception of COVID-19 in first year medical students of the Chimaltenango branch of the Pan American University. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between June and July 2021, in the universe of 186 first-year medical students of the Chimaltenango branch of the Pan American University. The variables were operationalized to achieve the objective. A survey was constructed, validated and applied to collect the information. The data were processed in SPSS 21, which were presented in double-entry contingency tables. The ethics of scientific research were complied with. Results: students living in urban areas are more aware of COVID-19 prevention measures, with a predominance of females. In general, they do not comply with the protective measures because they believe that nothing will happen to them. However, most of them use masks to cover their mouth and nose. Conclusion: the risk perception of COVID-19 was identified in first year medical students of the Panamerican University, which contributed to the adoption of preventive measures.
