ABSTRACT
In Global Health 2050, the Lancet Commission on Investing
in Health concludes that dramatic improvements in human
welfare are achievable by mid-century with focused health
investments. The Global Health 2050 report sets the goal of
reducing by 50% the probability of premature death, that is,
dying before the age of 70, by the year 2050 compared to
2019. This goal, known as “50 by 50,” the treatment of 15
priority conditions is proposed: eight are infectious diseases
and maternal conditions and seven are non-communicable
diseases and injuries. These conditions should be subsidized by
the governments of countries that choose to invest in these
health improvements. These interventions should also reduce
morbidity and disability. Furthermore, it proposes strengthening
health systems through cost-effective interventions
and policies such as high tobacco taxes. Finally, the report
emphasizes pandemic preparedness (due to the exceptionally
high risk of mortality) and comprehensive, global financial
support to ensure development and universal accessibility
to health services and technologies.
