ABSTRACT
Background: Anatomical knowledge of nose and paranasal sinuses, together
with technological advances, has been crucial in surgery, allowing better control
of infectious processes and reducing complications. Understanding the growth and
development of pneumatic cavities is essential for diagnosis, treatment, and surgical
planning, especially in endoscopic functional surgery.
Clinical case: A 65-year-old male patient with alterations in the pneumatic
development of the paranasal sinuses identified incidentally on computed tomography.
Conclusions: The literature describes multiple predisposing factors, such as genetic and environmental.
Tomography remains the gold standard for its diagnosis. These conditions are usually treated conservatively,
except of associated symptoms or aesthetic or reconstructive procedures. Understanding embryological development
is essential for an adequate interpretation of the alterations.
