The sample consisted of adults of both sexes, who were in the waiting room of a family medicine service at an SSA health center in the CDMX. Under informed consent they were asked to participate in the study, questions were asked directly.
Results: the sample consisted of 202 respondents, 155 referred to xerostomy (77%), 85 referred to alterations in taste perception (42%) and 52 referred to both xerostomy and dysgeusia (26%), 38% of respondents referred to dysgeusia without xerostomy, of these patients, 2 reported smoking and 10 suffered coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Conclusions: xerostomia and dysgeusia, together with other factors such as chronic systemic diseases and polypharmacy, have a negative impact on the quality of life, mainly in older adults.
