ABSTRACT
Introduction: inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders caused by pathogenic variants in genes involved in the development and function of the immune system.
Objective: to analyze the prevalence and distribution of IEI in pediatric patients of the General Hospital of Zone No. 31 of the IMSS, located in Mexicali.
Material and methods: patients with IEI diagnosed and treated in the Hospital General de Zone No. 31 of the IMSS during 18 years were registered in the LASID system (Latin American Society for Immunodeficiencies). The variables were collected in a database. The information was analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: seventy-four patients with various IEI were registered, 45 (61.8%) were male. The mean age at diagnosis was 5.2 years, with an age range of 1 month- 15.6 years, while the mean current age was 11.4 years. The mean age at symptom onset was 3.5 years, ranging from one month to 181 months. The most common IEI category was predominantly antibody deficiencies with 47%, followed by combined immunodeficiencies with syndromic features with 16%, and congenital phagocyte defects with 15%.
Conclusions: the analysis revealed a higher prevalence of predominantly antibody immunodeficiencies. This distribution of diagnoses is consistent with trends observed in other registries.
