ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe the outcomes in the rural and
urban populations who participated in the Colorectal
Cancer (CRC) program in the province of Álava, Autonomous
Community of the Basque Country, Spain,
between 2008 and 2022.
Methods: A retrospective,
cross-sectional, descriptive observational study was
carried out. The Boston Standardized and Validated
Scale was used. Participants underwent a well-prepared,
complete colonoscopy. They were also assigned
the most severe histological lesion found. Findings
were classified as: normal, low-risk adenoma, medium-
risk adenoma, high-risk adenoma, carcinoma
(CRC), relevant non-neoplastic pathology, and inconclusive
(positive iBT without definitive diagnosis).
Results: During the CRC screening rounds from
2009 to 2022, individual invitations were sent to each
household, and a total of 395,926 were valid. The participation
rate for the iTTD test, except for the first
year in 2009, was 58.98%; the remaining years ranged
from 67.14% to 74.43%.
Conclusions: The CCR
screening program is a screening method that is really
effective, so we consider that it is necessary to promote
this method well so that the population has an
increasing participation, placing special emphasis on
health areas where they are in situations with greater
difficulty in accessing the health system.
