Oncoplastic treatment of giant breast fibroadenoma

ABSTRACT

Breast fibroadenoma, a mixed tumor of fibrous and glandular breast tissue, is the most common benign breast tumor. It is called "giant" when it measures more than 5 cm and weighs more than 500 g. Oncoplastic surgery encompasses a set of techniques that improve breast conservation. This work demonstrates the feasibility of oncoplastic surgery techniques in the excision of large benign tumors to achieve breast symmetry. We present the case of a 21-year-old African American woman with a giant left breast fibroadenoma of more than two years evolution. We conclude that oncoplastic surgery techniques are essential tools in the surgical treatment of large benign breast tumors.
