ABSTRACT

Asynchronies in mechanical ventilation can occur during triggering and/or during cycling. Its frequent appearance is associated with poor outcomes, which is why its identification as part of real-time bedside monitoring is important. In the last decade, efforts have been made to structure and define the concepts related to these phenomena, however, their understanding continues to be cumbersome. With the help of storytelling as a method, four stories are presented that aim to help the Critical Care Medicine resident in understanding trigger asynchronies, namely: late trigger, early trigger, false trigger and failed trigger.
