ABSTRACT

Gingival tissues are essential for oral health, deficient hygiene, smoking and genetic factors promote the development of periodontitis, which compromises the integrity of the dental supporting tissues. Omega-3 fatty acids are precursors of resolvins. These are specialized molecules with anti-inflammatory properties that provide several benefits to overall health. Their role in periodontitis recently has been studied as a complementary therapeutic pathway for periodontal tissue regeneration. Adopting good dental hygiene habits and consuming foods rich in omega-3 are key to maintaining health.
