ABSTRACT

Introduction: robot-assisted living donor nephrectomy is a rapidly emerging surgical technique that is presented as a minimally invasive option, in addition to laparoscopic and laparoscopic-hand-assisted techniques. Clinical case: we report the first successful case in Mexico of Robot-assisted Nephrectomy, performed with the Da Vinci surgical platform for transplantation. The transplant was performed in a 48-year-old male with chronic kidney disease secondary to Diabetes Mellitus with immediate graft function. Robot-assisted left donor nephrectomy was performed with a transperitoneal approach. Conclusion: robot-assisted laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy is a recent surgical alternative that can be used as another tool for minimally invasive, safe and effective donation. We did not observe major differences in ischemia times compared to the usual times for laparoscopic donors and recipients, presenting immediate and optimal graft function.
