Quality of state theoretical exams of the specialty of Neurology from 2009 to 2019

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The state exam is an evaluation of the professional competence achieved by the students throughout their studies, consolidated in the year of pre-professional practice or internship, as a final component of the evaluation system established for the careers in Medical Sciences.Objective: To characterize the quality of the theoretical state exams in the specialty of Neurology at the "Lucía Iñiguez Landín" Clinical Surgical Hospital in Holguín, in the period 2009-2019.
Method: The evaluation project was used, with a mixed approach and descriptive design in the field of postgraduate education, whose object of study was the quality of the theoretical state exams applied in the specialty of Neurology. The universe and the sample were constituted by the 27 theoretical state exams applied in the period 2009-2019 and the primary data was recorded by the documentary observation guide and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used.
Results: All the topics received and the different rotations were explored, such as: Neuroanatomy-Epilepsy, Cerebrovascular Diseases-Neuroradiology and Neuromuscular -Neurophysiology-Neurophthalmology, per year respectively, with a total of 270 questions divided into 10 for each rotation, in those that prevailed the essay or development questions and short answers in all the exams of the period.
Conclusions: Due to the difficulty rate found and the instability of the repetitions of the contents explored in each rotation, the tests did not provide internal consistency, which showed low reliability.
