ABSTRACT

Introduction: airway management is essential for patient life support. In recent years, the use of ultrasound has been explored as a tool to estimate the probability of difficulties in airway management. Objective: to determine the relationship between pretracheal fat measured by ultrasound and Cormack-Lehane grades. Material and methods: prospective, observational, cross-sectional, analytical study, conducted in the Anesthesiology Service. Non-probabilistic sampling by availability was used; the data obtained included measurements and the Cormack-Lehane scale, and the correlation was evaluated using Pearson's r test. Results: 54.7% of the participants were women and 45.2% men, with an age range of 23 to 85 years. Demographic variables showed an average age of 46 years, weight of 78.8 kg, height of 1.62 m and body mass index of 29.7 in patients undergoing orotracheal intubation. Conclusion: the correlation between pretracheal fat and Cormack-Lehane grade was 0.20.
