ABSTRACT

The distal avulsion fracture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) accounts for 2.5% of all ACL tears. It is more common in the pediatric population. The mechanism of injury is forced valgus stress. Diagnosis is established through imaging studies. The classification depends on the number of fragments and their displacement. Concomitant injuries are only assessable through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); failure to diagnose them compromises ACL repair to a greater or lesser extent. We present the case of a 15-year-old girl with an ACL avulsion fracture.
