Vaccination of the pregnant patient

ABSTRACT
Background: Vaccines in pregnancy are a national health policy, aimed at reducing
predictable diseases in pregnant women and extending protection to the newborn.
Clarifying the myths, realities and how the doctor approaches the issue are key to
improving this process.
Objective: To know the current status of vaccination in pregnant women.
Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in October – November
2024, a validated survey of 10 questions was applied to gynecologists about
vaccines and pregnancy. A sample of 300 surveys was calculated with an Epi-Info digital
statistical calculator. The sample was divided into two groups, one by time of practice
and the other by priority work activity. The statistical analysis involved a univariate
analysis with measures of central tendency, a bivariate analysis with 1-factor Anova,
student's t for quantitative variables and for qualitative Kruskal-Wallis variables, with
Mann-Whitney U and a significance ‹ 0.05.
Results: A total of 328 surveys were conducted, the median age 46 years with physicians
from 30 states. The segmentation by time of practice was 72 with ‹ 10 years, 162
from 11 to 20 years and 94 › 21 years. The segment by main activity in obstetrics 156,
gynecology 152 and administrative 19. 99.6% considered vaccination as a priority,
100% recommended vaccination and 91.4% followed up on vaccination.
Conclusions: The national vaccination strategy is a program recognized by professionals.
However, continuous medical updating and frequent reminders are required
for it to be applicable and universal in daily practice.
