ABSTRACT

Nasal fractures are among the most frequent midfacial injuries, with both aesthetic and functional implications. This retrospective, longitudinal, and analytical study evaluated 64 cases of nasal fractures treated at the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the University Hospital of Caracas between 2000 and 2023. Findings revealed that 67% of patients were male, with the highest incidence occurring in the 21-40 age group (47%). The leading etiologies were physical assaults (34%) and same-level falls (33%), followed by motor vehicle accidents (17%). The most common symptom was epistaxis (95%), frequently associated with edema (48%) and nasal deviation (approximately 40%). Regarding treatment, 59% of patients underwent closed surgical management, while the remaining 41% received conservative care. Postoperative satisfaction was high: 88% of patients reported favorable outcomes in both function and aesthetics. These findings underscore the importance of standardized care protocols and multidisciplinary approaches in the management of nasal fractures. The evidence generated provides relevant data to optimize emergency care and guide preventive strategies in urban settings with a high incidence of facial trauma.
