ABSTRACT
Introduction: Human toxocariasis is caused by the migration of the Toxocara larva throughout the body and is manifested by a wide variety of symptoms. Toxocariasis is a public health problem whose magnitude has not been well defined.
Objective: To describe the main clinical, laboratory and imaging elements useful for the diagnosis of a patient with toxocariasis.
Clinical case: Male patient with a history of gallstones, bricklayer profession. He was admitted to the "Carlos J. Finlay" Hospital due to febrile syndrome of unknown origin. Systemic toxocariasis was diagnosed.
Comments: The diagnosis of toxocariasis is a challenge since there are no pathognomonic clinical manifestations. The set of clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, histological studies, study of the cerebrospinal fluid and the determination of specific antibodies against Toxocara are necessary for the confirmation of the disease.
