ABSTRACT

Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment for morbid obesity. Massive weight loss induces anatomical and functional changes that often require reconstructive surgery. The objective of this study is to determine the frequency and anatomical distribution of surgical wound dehiscence in patients undergoing post-bariatric reconstructive surgery. We conducted an observational, analytical and retrospective study of patients operated between 2020 and 2024. Sociodemographic data, comorbidities, surgical procedures and postoperative outcomes were collected. The study included a total of 224 patients, of whom 34 (15.1%) presented dehiscence. The median age was 45 years, with a predominance of women (87.5%). Weight decreased from 112 to 68.25 kg and BMI from 43.63 to 28.1 (p < 0.01). The mean onset time was 18 days. The most frequent sites were the vertical-horizontal junction in fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty (14%), mastopexy (8.9%) and medial thigh (8.9%). We conclude that dehiscence is a common complication, mainly occurring in areas of high-tension. It is necessary to optimize marking, technique and postoperative care.
