ABSTRACT

Regenerative medicine is a broad interdisciplinary field of research and clinical applications focused on the repair, replacement or regeneration of cells, tissues or organs to restore damaged function resulting from any cause, including congenital defects, disease and trauma. There are different positions on stem cell procurement. They start from the assumption that the embryo is at all times a human being deserving of the same degree of respect and protection as an adult person (or even more, because it is more defenceless). The embryo, from its early stages, is comparable, from the point of view of its moral status, to an adult human being. Therefore, its manipulation and destruction is unjustifiable, because it violates human dignity.
