ABSTRACT
Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is characterized by localized or diffuse coronary artery dilation exceeding 1.5 times the normal adjacent segment diameter, with an incidence of 1.5 to 5%. This observational, cross-sectional, and retrospective study analyzed data from patients who underwent coronary angiography at the General Hospital of Mexico between January 2018 and January 2021, identifying CAE cases. Among 1,258 patients, 30 (2.38%) were diagnosed with CAE, with 90% being male and 10% female. CAE was more prevalent in males, predominantly affected the anterior descending coronary artery, and was associated with TIMI 2 flow in 80% of cases, often presenting as non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome. Statistically significant differences were found between circumflex artery damage and ectasia severity, with anterior descending artery involvement linked to greater ectasia severity. Further studies are needed to determine optimal therapeutic strategies and long-term outcomes for CAE patients.
