ABSTRACT
Phlegmasia cerulea dolens (PCD) is a rare but serious disease related to primary or secondary hypercoagulability states. In adulthood it has been associated with malignancies, major surgery, prolonged immobilization or hormonal therapy. There are reports in children which associates it to trauma or infection. PCD presents with acute pain, massive swelling and progressive cyanosis due to venous congestion and fluid sequestration. Early diagnosis is critical for reducing overall morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a girl with severe deep venous thrombosis associated with antiphospholipid syndrome.
