ABSTRACT

Trichiasis and distichiasis are common conditions that significantly affect quality of life due to ocular irritation, corneal abrasion risk, and recurrent infections. Cryosurgery has proven to be an effective treatment, though its widespread application has often been limited by technical requirements and the need for hospitalization in previously published cases. Based on our clinical experience with 10 patients, this paper offers a comparative and descriptive review of a simplified outpatient technique utilizing a closed-tip probe and liquid nitrogen. We detail the procedure, which involves one or two freeze-thaw cycles, and analyze its advantages over other methods. The technique demonstrated to be effective, safe, and reproducible, with no recurrences observed during a minimum six-month follow-up period. We propose this method as a valid outpatient alternative that avoids complex technical demands, requiring only responsible and proper execution.
