ABSTRACT

Objective. To explore the association between twelve indicators of the Nurturing Care Framework and inadequate Early Childhood Development (ECD) during the next 1 000 days (children aged 2 to 5 years). Materials and methods. Using the Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición Continua 2021-2024, we estimated the prevalence of inadequate ECD and its association with the indicators of the Nurturing Care Framework using Poisson models stratified by area of residence. Results. 19.2% of children had inadequate ECD. The prevalence of inadequate ECD was more common in rural areas lacking access to preventive services, adequate height for age, early stimulation, availability of children’s books, toys, and basic water services. In urban areas, the prevalence was higher in children without adequate height, availability of children’s books, or school attendance. Conclusion. The findings highlight the need to design strategies differentiated by territorial context, aimed at ensuring equitable environments that favor adequate ECD.
