ABSTRACT

This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of premedication with bromazepam in reducing preoperative anxiety in patients at the Angeles Mocel Hospital. Preoperative anxiety, commonly experienced by patients due to uncertainty about the procedure, can negatively affect postoperative recovery. An observational, cross-sectional, prospective study was conducted with 185 adult patients, who were randomized to receive bromazepam or placebo. Anxiety was measured using the APAIS (Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale) scale. The results showed that the group treated with bromazepam had a significantly lower mean score in anxiety (6.15) compared to the placebo group (11.5), with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.009). In addition, anxiety was higher in women. It concludes that premedication with bromazepam is effective in reducing preoperative anxiety, improving patient satisfaction and potentially favoring a faster and less complicated recovery.
