ABSTRACT
Mediastinal teratomas are germ cell tumors located in the anterior mediastinum and represent the most common extragonadal germ
cell tumors, making up 50-70% of such tumors. They represent ~15% of anterior mediastinal masses in adults and 25% of anterior
mediastinal masses in children. The age of presentation is wide; in adults it is highest, between 20 and 30 years; in children under
one year of age, immature teratomas are common (40%) and detected prenatally; there is a slight female predominance in mature
teratomas; immature types are exclusively male.
