ABSTRACT

Healing is an essential process for skin repair. Aiming at restoring the protective function of the skin, therapies such as ozone therapy have been proposed, given the fact that it stimulates angiogenesis, activates aerobic metabolic pathways and increases growth factors. This study evaluates the effect of ozone therapy on the healing of uncomplicated surgical wounds in BALB/c mice, through macroscopic and microscopic analysis. An experimental study was carried out in 32 BALB/c mice, divided into four groups, in accordance with the ozone dose applied after surgical injury. Healing was evaluated 14 days postoperatively. A lower incidence of dehiscence and better tissue maturation were observed in the group that received three doses of ozone. There was a significant increase in collagen formation and maturation. Statistical analysis showed significant differences compared to the control group. These findings suggest that ozone may improve the quality of healing in healthy models, supporting the need for further clinical studies to continue assessing its efficacy and applicability.
