Trichoscopic findings of nevus sebaceous of Jadassohn across the lifespan

ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: The sebaceous nevus of Jadassohn (NSJ)
is an uncommon congenital cutaneous hamartoma that
affects the skin, including hair follicles, sebaceous and apocrine
glands. It presents three well-defined evolutionary
clinical stages, with variable morphology according to age.
It is associated with the development of benign neoplasms
in 10-20% of cases and malignant neoplasms in less than
3%, predominantly in adults.
METHODOLOGY: A series of three representative clinical
cases, one per evolutionary stage, describing the corresponding
trichoscopic features in each phase. The aim is to
provide practical and updated information to facilitate lifelong
follow-up of NSJ.
RESULTS: Characteristic trichoscopic findings in the different
evolutionary stages of NSJ: a 2-month-old girl with bright
yellow globules on a homogeneous yellow background;
a 12-year-old girl with brown-orange globules in a cobblestone
pattern; a 23-year-old man with yellow-brown globules
and grooves in a cerebriform pattern.
CONCLUSIONS: Given the low risk of malignancy primarily in
children and young adults, follow-up through close periodic
clinical surveillance is recommended, supported by trichoscopy,
reserving invasive procedures only in the presence of
trichoscopic warning signs.
