ABSTRACT

Bouveret syndrome (BS) is a rare form of biliary ileus causing gastric or duodenal obstruction due to an impacted stone in the upper gastrointestinal tract, typically in patients with chronic cholelithiasis. We report the case of a 63-year-old male presenting with persistent vomiting and epigastric pain, diagnosed by computed tomography. Surgical management was successful and without complications, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis to prevent high morbidity. Due to its low incidence, there are no clear guidelines for managing BS; however, endoscopic treatment may be first-line in selected cases, while surgery remains necessary in others. This report emphasizes the relevance of considering BS in patients with unexplained gastric or duodenal obstruction and a history of cholelithiasis.
