ABSTRACT

Introduction: patient survival after kidney transplantation is a key indicator of the performance of the transplant system; however, there is limited comparative national evidence on associated factors. Material and methods: a retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from the National Transplant Registry (2019-2026), analyzing 11,242 transplants with follow-up using Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank tests. Results: patient survival was higher in living donor transplants compared to deceased donor transplants (94.7 versus 87.4% at five years; p ‹ 0.05), with differences by age and sex in deceased donor transplants and no significant differences between institutions. Conclusion: overall, post-kidney transplant patient survival in Mexico is high, with donor type and age identified as the main associated factors, providing evidence for decision-making in the transplant system.
