ABSTRACT

Objective. To explore by means of the brain stem evoked potentials (BSEPs) neonates with high levels of bilirubin.
Material and methods. Thirty jaudice newborn infants with high levels of bilirubin were studied by BSEPs. Any of them had been treated with aminoglucosides, shown cephalic deformations or neurological manifestations.
Results. Sixteen mg/dL of bilirubin was the lower level founded in 6 of the 30 neonates with abnormal BSEPs.
Conclusions. The findings shown that a level of 16 mg/dL in a jaudice neonate could be enough for to study brain damages.
