ABSTRACT

Background
The procedures and the qualification strategies and rehabilitation applied the children in a therapy program that stimulates their learning should be continued at home. The child’s main caretaker informs the way in that those activities are carried out and the time that last; however, these activities should be measured objectively. The Inventory HOME was elaborated with the objective of evaluating the quality of the emotional, cognitive and social stimulation, and it has been used in children’s homes with problems of malnutrition, in marginal areas (Dr. Cravioto) and in cases of disabilities.

Objective
To measure the stimulation at home in children with deep bilateral hearing loss that receive group therapy with strategies for the use of simple sentences.

Material and method
Application of the Inventory HOME at these children's home, recording and filming the interviews and the physical conditions at home.

Results
There were visited 16 homes of children with deep bilateral hearing loss, males and females, with ages between 1.10 and 4.05, media of 2.03 ± .676. It was compared the percentage of observations of the test with the one obtained in the population by scales, being the V the lowest (61%), that measures the “width of the experience”. The score obtained by each subject to 61 reagents was between 32 and 54, with a media of 44.

Conclusions
In this first measurement, in general way, the adults maintain a lot of contact with the minor and they expose them little to external experiences, what could rebound in their qualification.
