ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this research was to know if the prevention and dental health of dental students are associated with the acquisition of preventive oral health knowledge learned during their professional studies.
Material and methods: In this transversal, observational and random study, 8 students of the five different years were selected at Universidad De La Salle Bajio Dental School, they answered a self-applied questionnaire to evaluate oral hygiene habits and lifestyle. Also, an oral screen and radiological exam.
Results: Prevention and oral health was no correlated with the academic year. The brushing frequency for each day points our that the students of first and fifth year of the dental school had a better dental hygiene than the third year, which showed the worst oral hygiene. This index is inversely proportional to index school activities.
Conclusion: The preventive practices between the students must improve, we did not observe a relationship between the educational level and their oral heath. This will prevent oral disease and make them conscious of the need to preach with the example.
