ABSTRACT
Objective. To know the frequency of children abused in primary schools of Tijuana, B.C.
Material and methods. 893 school children and 49 teachers of 30 public schools randomly selected. The information were obtained in questionnaires: one for the students and the another for teachers. Both were previously validated.
Results. 85.9% of the teachers said to know some cases of children abused by the teachers and to know about a child which was sexually abused. Among the school children, 41% said that they had never received any punishment. Five of them said that the teacher used to pull it’s hair and 18 said that they were prohibited to go to the toilet. Some teachers mentioned that in order to control some of them use to o pinch or to hit the children.
Conclusions. Some corrective punishments mentioned by the teachers could be considered physical aggressions, however do to its low frequency it does not seem to be a serious problem. Nevertheless the teachers should recognized the signs of the children to avoid the feeling of them about punishments.
